ITC Gardenia to be 1st Indian LEED Platinum hotel

The ITC Royal Gardenia in Bengaluru is likely to become India’s first LEED Platinum hotel. The 292-room hotel at the centrally-located 1 Residency Road, has already sent in its final submission to the Washington DC-based US government’s green building rating agency.

Platinum is LEED’s high rating with only a few buildings worldwide managing to meet its demanding specifications. There are a total of four certifications in progressive levels; Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

The challenge of building the Royal Gardenia to Platinum specifications was much easier for ITC which derived its experience for the acclaimed ITC WelmcomEnviron Centre in Gurgaon that is already a LEED Platinum building.

“We do not expect a problem but are keeping our fingers crossed. The results are expected in three-four weeks,” said Niranjan Khatri, general manager, ITC WelcomEnviron Initiatives.
