IHG to increase presence in NYC

The InterContinental Hotels Group PLC is planning to increase its presence in New York City. They start with the luxury, 600-room hotel all set to open on July 12 in the Times Square area.

The UK based hotel chain that owns the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brands has 15 hotels under development. They already have about 22 operational in the city.

Like its peers Marriott International Inc. and Hilton Hotels Worldwide, IHG manages thousands of hotels but owns few of them. It manages more than 4,400 hotels globally. The InterContinental Barclay is one of the few IHG owns.

Much of The InterContinental Hotels Group also known as IHG’s New York expansion will be in its midscale brands with smaller footprints, namely Holiday Inn and Hotel Indigo.

This is mainly because the city isn’t as crowded in the midscale market as it is for luxury hotels.
