“Hotels prefer eco-friendly and digitally automated bathroom products”

Pau Abelló Pellicer, MD of Roca Bathrooms Products tells Vinita Bhatia how urbanization has led to a rising demand for premium bath products

How is Roca growing its market share in India, especially in the hospitality domain?
Hotels have always been our key customers for premium and luxury bathroom products and prefer eco-friendly and digitally automated products. To grow in this category, our approach is focused towards introducing new technology and innovative designs. Roca Bathroom Products has six brands in India – Armani-Roca, Laufen, Roca, Johnsson Suisse, Parryware and Johnson Pedder. Within each we offer a wide collection of products to different segments (economical, premium and luxury) and buyers; and an exclusive range to cater to the hospitality market.
Urbanization has led to a rising demand for premium bath products. Innovation rules the market and automated sensor enabled fittings are chosen over the traditional ones by tech-savvy customers.
We have multiple bathroom products where innovation has combined with sustainability to reduce water consumption, increase hygiene, offer better comfort and convenience, with zero compromise on product durability. Some of these are smart toilets, adjustable dual flush WCs, electronic faucets and waterless urinals.

At what rate has the market grown in India in the past three years?
The sanitaryware market in India has grown rapidly during the last few years. Factors such as increasing disposable incomes, higher standards of living, more presence of international brands and increasing expenditure on beautifying homes using premium products provide a further impetus to the growth of this segment. India’s sanitaryware market is growing at a CAGR of 12 percent to 15 percent from last four years and is projected to have a steady growth till the year 2021.

Given the current scenario, what is the expected growth rate for the next three years? What factors will propel this, especially in the hotel industry?
According to India Sanitaryware Market Outlook 2021, India’s sanitaryware market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 20.87 percent over the period of six years. I think it will be something around 15 percent. Government measures combined with
rising awareness among people for a need of a toilet space will provide an impetus of growth for the market in coming years.
More premium, high technology and eco-friendly products for personal or hotel bathrooms are being preferred nowadays by the customers. Hotels have always been one of the biggest contributors for the bathrooms products market and now prefer more eco-friendly and digitally automated products for their customers.

How is Roca positioned to provide sustainable porducts?
