Entry to the Mumbai High Court building has traditionally been restricted. However, Shri Jayant Kumar Banthia, chief secretary of Maharashtra, had sought permission from the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court to permit the ‘Heritage Walk’ to include the iconic the High Court Building. MTDC has now received the required permissions and soon the Heritage Walks will be devised.
The Heritage Walk will be facilitated by TOGA (tour guides association). However entry to tourists will be allowed only on weekends when it is not a working day at the High Court. Jagdish Patil, managing director, MTDC, said, “It is our great privilege to have the opportunity of organising the Heritage Walk at the High Court. The beautiful building premises are indeed a rare sight for visitors and not many get the opportunity to visit it. The Mumbai High Court is a monument of great significance, history and heritage. We are thankful to the Hon’ble the chief Justice for allowing us to arrange Heritage Walks at the High Court. ”
However, the enthusiasts will have to be disciplined and show adhererance to the High Court’s guidelines. The Heritage Walk will take place in the presence of Police authorities and the court keeper between 8.00 am to 10.30 am on Saturday and Sunday except the Court’s working Saturdays during the month.
Visitors will have to move around in small batches (15 to 20 people at a time) and maintain discipline while navigating the various Court Rooms and the veranda. Photography of the interiors of the Court Rooms or High Court Building will be prohibited. The bottomline isthat no disturbance is to be caused in the court rooms, departments and in the precincts of the Court.
