Recently a research was conducted by a travel insurance company, Columbus Direct on the most Googled landmarks in the world. The researchers involved in the study used Google’s keyword planner as a tool to gauge top-performing keywords, in order to find out which landmarks are most-searched by people across the globe.
As per the findings, India’s finest and world-renowned Taj Mahal has topped the list of most Googled landmarks in the world. The Taj Mahal topped the list by beating other important monuments such as the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, London Eye, Stonehenge, etc.
The UNESCO’s World Heritage Site located in Agra, has 14,17,650 monthly searches across the world, beating Machu Picchu in Peru that gets 12,69,260 monthly searches worldwide.
In terms of other monuments in the list:
- UAE’s Burj Khalifa emerged as the third popular landmark with a monthly search of 11,03,950
- Niagara Falls in the border of the USA and Canada has 9,45,810 worldwide searches in a month
- The Eiffel Tower in France stood fifth with 9,16,270 searches worldwide each month
- Nepal’s Mount Everest stood seventh in the list, behind UK’s Stonehenge
- America’s Statue of Liberty ranked 8th in the list
- The Great Wall of China ranked 27th in the list
- Mount Fuji stood 35th in the list
- The Sistine Chapel in Vatican City was ranked the 50th position
