Swachhta Action Plan to be implemented at 180 tourists sites in India, states Ministry of Tourism

As a part of Swachh Bharat Mission 2019-2020, Ministry of Tourism will soon be implementing Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) activities at tourists spot in India to ensure cleanliness. The decision comes in a wake to drive awareness among tourists, stakeholders etc. As per a recent statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, it has selected 180 tourist sites for conducting this initiative.

Besides this, the Ministry of Tourism has also organised Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachhta-Hi-Seva activities at different destinations across the country. According to recent reports, the Archaeological Survey of India has identified 13 monuments like the Taj Mahal, Akbar’s Tomb and Sikandra in Agra; Rani Jhansi’s Palace in Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, and others as Adarsh Monuments (which means ideal monuments).  The core motive behind selecting these monuments is to offer basic amenities like toilet, interpretation centre, drinking water, ramps, pathways, WiFi, illumination, publication sale counter etc to tourists.

Earlier, the Ministry of Tourism had also declared all ASI-protected archaeological sites and monuments as polythene-free zone. The ASI had classified monuments of priority as Adarsh Monuments, some of which are the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Leh Palace, Konark Temple, Hampi, Rang Ghar, Sher Shah’s Tomb, Jal Mahal, Sun Temple and more.
