Many companies have responsible business commitments, but with hotels in local communities all over
the world, IHG Hotels & Resorts is in a unique position to make a real difference. In recent years, we have made important progress in targeting the operational, peopleled and environmental issues most material to our stakeholders and us.
COVID-19’s impact has shown us the importance of collective action to tackle some of the world’s biggest environmental issues. In a changing and challenging world, it is pertinent that businesses like ours lead the way in doing more – it is the right thing to do and our stakeholders expect this of us as well.
LEARNING ON THE GO
We work continuously and collaboratively with our hotels, owners and external partners to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. IHG recently launched ‘Journey to Tomorrow’, its 10-year responsible business plan that transparently sets out its ambitions to make a positive impact.
We call this a journey as we have not got all the answers yet. But, we see this as an important framework
to bring together all who stay, work and partner with us to shape the future of responsible travel. Guests around the world share our commitment to collective action.
A global study of 9000 adults commissioned by IHG Hotels & Resorts revealed that consumers are more mindful than ever about travelling responsibly, with 82% saying it is important to choose a hotel brand that operates responsibly. They are willing to spend an average 31% more on accommodations that do this.
THE RIGHT BALANCE
Our plans to operate more sustainably ultimately give our guests a more eco-conscious stay. This will contribute to an overall better guest experience. Any changes or solutions that we look to implement will be of the calibre that our guests expect when they stay with us.
For instance, the IHG Green Engage environmental management system enables our hotels to track measure and report on energy, water and waste. It also offers 200 green solutions that can be utilised to improve sustainability practices at property level.
Collaboration is the key to tackling environmental challenges. Hotels can work together to learn best practices and solutions within their region to drive this collective action to save the planet from further devastation.
