Maharashtra Cabinet approves 'Ease of Doing Business' policy for hospitality sector

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the ease of doing business policy for the hospitality sector in the state. This significant move will bring down the number of licenses required for hospitality businesses.

After the cabinet meeting, State tourism minister, Aaditya Thackeray took to his twitter to announce about the decision. In his tweet he said,”Today, the Cabinet has passed the landmark ‘Ease of Doing Business’ norms for the hospitality sector in Maharashtra. This move was being long discussed and overdue, however, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Cabinet put it into motion for approval.”

The minister also shared a infographic explaining the number of licences  required by the industry now which said, “One will only need to procure 10 licenses, unlike 70 previously required, for doing business.”

Earlier, 15 no objection certificates (NOCs) were required from seven departments for the purpose, while now nine self-certifications will do, the graphic stated. Apart from licenses, the number of application forms to be submitted has also been reduced to eight from the earlier 70.

Under the policy, the validity of all licenses, with no fixed time limit by law, will be five years from the date of issuance. The tourism department will also handle the single window system to issue licences for the hospitality sector to facilitate business.
