Kolkata extends ban on domestic flights from six cities till July 31

In a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state, the West Bengal government has extended the ban on domestic flights arriving from six cities to Kolkata till July 31. The flight arrivals from six cities that will be banned include Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.

According to reports, the ban on flight arrivals from six cities to Kolkata was till July 19, which has now been extended to July 31.

In a recent tweet, Kolkata airport informed that the temporary ban has been imposed on the request of state government in order to restrict movement from high prevalence cities of #coronavirus cases in order to contain the spread of #COVID19.

This apart, the West Bengal government had also written to the Civil Aviation Ministry informing about the steep rise in cases. The letter further stated that a large number of cases have been reported from interstate travel of people who carried the infection. Given the fact, as a precautionary measure, the West government has decided to restrict the interstate movement of flight and train service into the state for now.
