Sustainability is no trend; it is here to stay. It can help hotels future-proof their business, and gain a competitive edge. More than that, it can result in tangible cost efficiency.

Vineet Mishra, Complex General Manager of Pullman and Novotel New Delhi Aerocity is delighted to share numbers of how green initiatives by the hotels has helped both properties save a tidy sum. For instance, its STP efficiently recycles almost all wastewater from various parts of the hotels, resulting in 25% saving on water consumption. Moreover, its water tank system uses steam to heat water. This is another addition 7% savings.

Pullman and Novotel New Delhi Aerocity use LED lighting across all public areas as well as guest rooms. The upshot is approximately 4% saving on energy cost across the properties.

The hotel has an expansive setup of solar heating panels spread across its rooftops, which is used for hot water generation. Mishra added that the hotel has signed up for renewable energy certificate, which permits it to consume almost 25000 units a day. They can feed any unused renewable-generated power back into the power grid so that other customers can use it. Like Mishra said, this way, they can ensure they are consuming energy rightly and also spending rightly.

Keeping in mind that sustainability is a long-term solution that needs customer participation as well, Pullman and Novotel New Delhi Aerocity encourages its guests to use glass bottles in its F&B outlets instead of packaged water. It also has other initiatives where a software analyses the food wastage to control wastage and ensure better efficiency.
All these environmentally-friendly steps are helping the hotel tote up some significant gains even as it keeps identifying more alternatives to reduce its dependency on energy, water usage and waste processing.
