The Imperial New Delhi supports World Hand Hygiene Day with HAI

The Imperial New Delhi joined hands with Hotel Association of India (HAI) to support ‘Save Lives- Clean your hands’, the theme of this year’s World Hand Hygiene Day as announced by the World Health Organization (WHO). The theme of the day aligns with the aim of the Health Quality to reduce healthcare associated infections and prevent the spread of antibiotic resistance microorganisms within health settings. Good hand hygiene is integral to building strong, resilient health systems for whatever situation arises.

To make its associates and guests aware about the importance of maintaining hand hygiene and to create substantial awareness, the hotel’s members conducted various activities. These included screening a short film on the importance of hand hygiene in the employee cafeteria and displaying responsive posters with the messages ‘Save Lives- Clean your hands’ across departments to promote the theme. They also organised a poster making and slogan writing competition for employees to highlight the key message amidst guests: Save Lives- Clean your hands’. A hand sanitizer was gifted to all associates to keep their hands clean and to stay away from disease causing germs. Additionally, a special session on hand hygiene for prevention of infections was conducted by The Imperial’s security team for drivers who handle airport transfers for guests. Posters on Hand hygiene adapted as leaflets in Hindi and English were sent to the residence of employees to create consciousness and instill action amongst family members.

“All good things start from the grass root level and it is important to promote initiatives that are vital for a healthy lifestyle, especially when we are operating in the service industry. It is time to understand, encourage and spread awareness that perfectly clean hands are the most effective way and the first step to stay away from antibiotic resistant infections and be healthy. Like last year, this year too, we had organized focused activities toemphasize on keeping hand hygiene at all times and shall continue to do so in near future to make our country aware, safe and healthy”, said  Vijay Wanchoo, senior executive-VP & GM, The Imperial New Delhi.

HAI intends to create awareness among the local communities, schools, orphanages, public institutions, guests, visitors and employees of hotels and the people who handle food and spread the importance of washing hands with soap and water or using a hand sanitizer as the simplest and most cost-effective way of promoting community well-being through prevention of respiratory illnesses, common cold, influenza and other infections
