David Mathews is the newly appointed General Manager of Trident, Bandra Kurla, Mumbai. He holds over 25 years of leadership experience with the Oberoi Group and has worked with various prestigious brands. During his tenure in Gurgaon, Mathews was awarded the coveted title of ‘General Manager of the Year’ by Hotelier India Awards 2013.
Before joining Trident, Bandra Kurla, he was the General Manager of flagship properties such as The Oberoi, Gurgaon and Trident, Gurgaon. Guiding and advising the joint sales team to target higher paying rooms with a balanced occupancy during challenging market situations has been his core strategy. The hotels have triumphed with the highest ARR and REVPAR in the city.
With over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Mathews has worked at premier hotels across India as well as in Muscat in the Middle East. His brings his passion and expertise in Food & Beverage to the F&B outlets of whichever hotel he runs.
His team and he created many successful Food & Beverage ‘firsts’ at The Oberoi, Gurgaon – The Capital’s largest Wine Extravaganza – The Fine Wine Affair, Rivaayat – the Indian Culinary Conclave and The Golden Crust – Bakery and Boulangerie Conclave to name a few. During his tenure, The Oberoi, Gurgaon’s restaurants – threesixtyone◦ and amaranta have won numerous awards in the city by leading publications and retain prime position in the city.
Mathews has been a part of many industry forums like the Hospitality Association of India Conclave 2013 and The Global Spa and Wellness Summit 2013 to name a few. He and the team at The Oberoi Gurgaon also had the honour of playing host to two key multilateral forums hosted by the Government of India – the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Co-operation (IORARC) with 17 Foreign Ministers in attendance in 2012 and the Asia Europe Ministers Summit (ASEM) with 47 Foreign Ministers in 2013. His key involvement during these conferences is right from the planning and conceptualization stage to spear heading innovative themes during special showcases and holding coordination meetings for operational synergy.
Mathews has a Master’s degree in International Hotel Management from the University of Buckingham in England and is a Gold Medalist from the Oberoi School of Hotel Management
