In the wake of the recent controversy surrounding offensive remarks made by certain Maldivian ministers towards India and Prime Minister Modi, a wave of discontent has surged among Indian citizens, travel companies and traders.
The ‘Boycott Maldives’ movement has gained momentum on social media, leading prominent travel agencies such as MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip to temporarily withdraw Maldives’ packages.Â
The ripple effect of this controversy extended to a recent poll posted by one of the users on social discovery app Hunch, reflecting the preferences of Gen Z.
Out of 1,126 participants, 68.9% expressed a preference for exploring the pristine beauty of Lakshadweep, while 31.1% still held onto their desire to visit Maldives.
In recent years, Gen Z has shown a strong inclination towards travel destinations centered around island nations and countries abundant in beaches. The allure lies in their desire to unwind and bask in the natural beauty that these locales offer. Leading this trend are destinations like Lakshadweep, capturing the hearts of young travelers seeking tranquil coastal retreats.
