In the dynamic and ever-evolving world of design, the concept of preserving regional and local nuances within hospitality design has become notably significant. This art harmoniously merges with aesthetics, crafting indelible guest spaces and establishing elevated standards. As the world becomes more interconnected and people become well-travelled, guests actively seek experiences that are authentic and unique. In this article, Ar. Khozema Chitalwala, Founder and Principal Architect of Designers Group, shares his thoughts about creating sterling hospitality spaces with a balance of local traditions and modern designs.

Every region has its own cultural and geographical elements that help shape the identity of the place. Through the incorporation of elements like materials, textures, hues, and designs, hospitality ventures provide a unique chance for designers to craft significant, evocative, and unforgettable spaces that are deeply connected to their surroundings and heritage.

For instance, Taj Mahal Palace, Lucknow, a luxury hospitality design by Designers Group located in Lucknow, incorporates Chikankari, a traditional embroidery style and prestigious trinket of Lucknow. Reflected through elements such as digital wallpapers, the patterns combined with the design scheme epitomise the regional narrative of the space in the property.

Embedded within the context, some architects delve into history to give an identity to their design. Hospitality design that incorporates historical elements can evoke a sense of nostalgia and connection with guests. Additionally, designers can use vintage furnishings, architectural details, or other historical elements to create a sense of place and tell a story about the space.

Nestled amidst meticulously manicured landscapes and serene green surroundings, the Radisson Blu in Alibaug was entrusted to Designers Group where the dedicated team embarked on a mission to seamlessly weave the tranquillity and lush beauty of Alibaug into the property’s design, achieved through a harmonious blend of earthy tones and an open, inviting layout. The lobby is devised to immerse the patrons in a subtle symphony of various shades of blue, reminiscent of the coastal waters that grace Alibaug’s shores. The captivating dialogue between the interior spaces and the captivating outdoors was accomplished by introducing water features adorned with artful artefacts and accessories crafted from delicate blue cotton balls, further enhancing the resort’s unique atmosphere.

Another way of embracing local nuances in hospitality design is by providing local cuisine for a veritable culinary experience. It can go beyond mere aesthetics, encompassing the creation of distinctive dining areas that pay homage to the local flavours. Design professionals have the opportunity to work with indigenous chefs in crafting restaurant interiors that embody the very soul of the locale.

Along with other parameters, architects often try to fuse multi-sensory experiences that encourage guests to immerse in the local context. This can be achieved by incorporating local decor, featuring locally-made art, and bringing in native materials. Moreover, collaborating with local artists, craftsmen, and suppliers not only enriches the design but also supports the local economy. Many architects often integrate flora into landscapes to create spaces that merge with natural beauty.

In conclusion, the world of hospitality design encourages the creation of spaces that reflect regional and local nuances, which require a deep appreciation for culture, history, geography, and community. From cultural authenticity to ethical experiences, the infusion of regional elements elevates the guest experience, fostering a sense of connection and leaving a lasting impression that transcends the stay itself.
