These hotels, scattered across India, have served as picturesque backdrops and key plot settings in various beloved Bollywood movies

These grand hotels and forts not only offer luxurious amenities and stunning architecture but also provide the much needed royalty, glamour and drama to Bollywood. Their inclusion in the films has boosted their popularity and attracted fans from around the world. Let’s look at some of the most famous hotels and forts to have been featured in movies:

  1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur


Spread over 50 acres, The Oberoi Udaivilas, which features grand architecture, is inspired by the palaces of Rajasthan. The property is built on 200-year old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar. Located on the banks of Udaipur’s Lake Pichola, it has three restaurants, two heated outdoor pools and a luxurious spa. The undeniable architecture of the palace is pretty much the reason it makes the movie (wedding) shots impeccable.

2. Bhool Bhulaiya – Chomu Palace, Jaipur

Chomu Palace is a 300-year-old palace hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan. This historic royal palace was the place where Bhool Bhulaiya was filmed. This 300-year-old palace is the perfect mix of grandeur and modernistic amenities. This place is also considered one of the best destination wedding venues in Jaipur.

4. Amer Fort in Jaipur – Bajirao Mastani

One of the top tourist attractions of Jaipur, the huge Amer Palace Fort sits atop a small hill, and is located at a distance about 11 km from the main city. The magnificent Amer Fort is an extensive palace complex that has been built with pale yellow and pink sandstone, and with white marble. The fort is divided into four main sections that are graced with their own courtyards. From the iconic Jab Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya from the movie Mughal-e-Azam to the picturesque Mohe Rang Do Laal from Bajirao Mastani and some of the most iconic scenes from Jodhaa Akbar, the fort has been used for several shoots. The fort was also a part of the Fawad Khan and Sonam Kapoor-starrer, Khoobsurat!

5. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – Vijay Vilas Palace, Kutch

The Vijay Vilas Palace is an impressive 450-acre palace estate at Mandvi where the Maharaos of Kutch spent summer in the 1940s. The imposing palace is built in an Indo-European style with exquisite stonework.

In the palace estate is the privately-owned beach, which is a unique attraction. The erstwhile princely family now offer accommodation in a tented resort at the beach site. The resort has been designed to look like a royal guest camp keeping with the location in the palace estate, with each tented room featuring British colonial style wooden furniture, modern bathrooms and a patio. Also, the famous Bollywood movie ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ has been shoot here.
