Responsible solutions

JohnsonDiversey is committed to eco sustainability and has globally initiated steps that reflect the company’s sound environment friendly practices, says Abhay Desai

Going green is the latest trend among corporates. But at JohnsonDiversey, environmental stewardship is deeply embedded in our culture. It is a core value and has been since the founding of the Johnson family of companies more than 120 years ago. We consider it our mission to provide our customers with products and solutions that are environmentally responsible and that enhance the safety of their facilities. This is our overarching goal. It defines who we are.

JohnsonDiversey’s commitment is exemplified by our work in gaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Building Certification (LEED- EB). Our global headquarters was constructed in 1997 to stringent environmental requirements. To earn LEED-EB, we made physical adaptations at our headquarters, and developed resource use practices and green cleaning protocols that focus on energy use and the environment.

RESPONSIBLE SOLUTIONS

JohnsonDiversey India is closely associated with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). We play a significant role in helping maintain the green status of a building.

ResonsibleSolutions™ is a comprehensive program that enusres our total product and service offerings are environmentally the best they can be. It means we consider health and environmental implications throughout our entire supply chain and manufacturing processes.

Globally, we have taken the following steps for a greener and a better world:
• We are committed to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes. We have implemented accurate tracking of consumption and disposal and standardised measures across all operations globally. With this data, we are targeting ongoing reductions in wastewater COD, solid waste, total water, net water and energy.

• The JohnsonDiversey Healthy High Performance Cleaning Programme (HHPC) earned GREENGUARD® certification and was the first system to be so certified in the cleaning and hygiene industry. GREENGUARD certification is given to programs and products across the facility management industry that meets stringent requirements to improve indoor air quality (IAQ).

• Celebrating the 50th anniversary of our TASKI floor-care business, we planted 50,000 Carnauba tree seedlings in the Caatinga region of Brazil. These plants support the reforestation of the Caatinga region and help support education for underprivileged children who live in this area.

• We began phasing alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) out of our products several years ago and now have eliminated them from all new product formulations. APEOs are toxic to aquatic species and potential endocrine disruptors to all animal life. Thus we announced our commitment to stop formulating and manufacturing products with APEOs.

• JohnsonDiversey has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to develop a groundbreaking new tool to help map and protect the world’s freshwater supply. A team of WWF scientists is creating a detailed, digital map of freshwater channels for the entire globe called the HydroSHEDS.

• In 2006, we continued an aggressive program for reducing packaging waste from our operation in Europe and North America. By consolidating sourcing for plastic bottles, reducing the amount of plastic used in bottles and increasing post-consumer recycled content, we reduced the use of virgin plastic from all our packaging by a total of almost 2,800 tons.

• JohnsonDiversey Aquacheck ™ program is two-stage audit system with a follow-up water-saving methodology. It gives facility managers a complete look at water use and costs in their plants and a clear idea of their environmental impact.

JohnsonDiversey is deeply committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and to playing an active and aggressive role in promoting the economic, social and environmental well-being of our host communities.
