The Oberoi Mumbai is likely to open in January 2010, well ahead of the schedule said Liam Lambert, president of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.
“We were hoping to get it open in time for the anniversary of the bombings to prove that we would get this done, but now it should be open by January. It is taken us longer than we thought it would to repair the hotel because the bombs blew everything apart,” said Lambert.
Opening in January 2010 is ahead of EIH chairman PRS Oberoi’s statement at the company’s 59th AGM last month. “The restoration of the hotel [Oberoi Mumbai] is making steady progress and we expect to reopen the hotel in the first quarter of 2010,” he said.
EIH is completely renovating the 20 year property to give it a ‘new look’.
Although The Oberoi Mumbai is still closed, its sister property, Trident, Nariman Point, located adjacent it, is open for business.
