According to the WWTC, the Indian hospitality sector contributes about $194.30 billion or 6.8% to the country’s GDP and employs around 8% of the total population, supporting 39.80 million jobs. Sadly, following the coronavirus outbreak, the industry faced several challenges and many hospitality students too faced massive setbacks.
As per Statista, close to 100.8 million jobs were lost globally in the travel and tourism market in 2020. In India, the organised hospitality sector alone is likely to lose $25 billion. Many hotels were forced to let go of their employees or put them on furlough.
This also took away almost many students’ chances of learning practical skills or gaining any real-world experience. This situation increased the competition for the youth three-folds. To bridge this gap between industry and students, TBH Circle took an initiative called Wine O’ Clock, to provide practical exposure for hospitality students. Founded by Vikram Kukreja, TBH Circle is a global youth development platform that aims to help the youth community.
The organisation held a two-day masterclass on ‘World of Wines’ recently. It claimed that almost 2500 students and professionals attended it, along with two WSET level 3 industry experts – Ashuli Saini, WSET Level 3 F&B professional and Savio Cardoza, Sommelier at Borago, Chile. The duo guided students, professionals and wine enthusiasts on topics like vilification, wine terminologies, wine production, etc.
