Beleza By The Beach Resort, South Goa commits to sustainability

The resort is known for following eco-friendly practices and supporting local businesses.

Spread over 5 acres of land, Beleza By The Beach is a boutique resort located in South Goa, which has kept sustainability at its heart since its inception. The resort is known for following eco-friendly practices and supporting local businesses.

This all goes back to year 2008, when during the construction of the resort, the owners took the decision to support the local community and hence sourced the raw material for construction from local vendors, and instead of using bricks, the resort was built using laterite.

Sustainability at the resort is blended in a variety of ways into the guest experiences and gets the customers thinking about their environmental impact. Use of plastic bottles is banned from the resort and guests are served water in glass bottles instead of single use plastic bottles.

Guests at Beleza By The Beach are also encouraged to reuse towels during their stay. And the property has also invested in their own sewage treatment plant to treat the wastewater from all the guests’ rooms and other parts of the resort. So, all the water on daily basis is recycled which is rich in minerals and is then used for maintaining the gardens and cleaning the property.

The restaurants at the resort partner with local farmers to bring farm to table practices in action. The local red rice used at the restaurant is sourced from the rice paddy fields around the resort along with seasonal vegetables from the local farmers in the area.

The resort also has its own Organic fruits and vegetable garden which is open to the hotel guests to visit for a guided garden walk. The Espaço Divino spa supports the local community and uses homegrown cold pressed coconut oil for all the massages. The resort also supports the local panchayat through monthly beach cleaning drives. And most recently, taking the CSR initiatives forward, the resort updated its website with a new initiative – “B. Compassionate”.

Due to its location, reputation and services offered, the resort also caters to a lot of weddings and events which is a time when people would like to donate for charity too. So, the B. Compassionate initiative launched by the resort is to help build more brand awareness for Akshaya Patra (AP) Foundation, an NGO in India that strives to eliminate classroom hunger by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the government schools and government-aided schools.

The key idea behind all the corporate social responsibility efforts, as described by Bhavna Bahl, President Business Development at Beleza By The Beach Resort, “is to pursue pro-social objectives, in addition to running a business and growing it. I am deeply moved by AP’s noble endeavor to aid in promoting education by alleviating hunger in school-going children. My family has worked closely with AP in driving free and incentivized covid vaccination camps in slums of Delhi which has been a successful project, with Akshay Patra being a ration kit sponsor for each person taking the vaccine.”
