East India Hotels has reportedly yesterday inducted Nita Ambani, wife of RIL chair Mukesh Ambani onto their board.
Nita Ambani was nominated to join the board by RIL following their buy in of 14% stake in EIH in August last year
upon the invitation of the Oberoi family. The latest move will also serve to counter any ambitions that ITC – which
also has a 14.98% stake in EIH – may have of gaining control over Oberoi Hotels which is competition to ITC hotels.
Also joining the board is RIL’s Manoj Modi who despite having a quiet public profile is said to have implemented many
of RIL’s big ticket projects, Robert Henry Burns, a hospitality veteran f and Renu Sud Karnad, joint MD, HDFC.
Industry experts and newsmen are calling the move an indication that chairman PRS Oberoi, is beefing up his board, if
threat ever comes calling.
