Copper Chimney celebrates its 49-year legacy with new Mumbai outpost

JK Kapur opened the first Copper Chimney in 1972 in Mumbai, serving secret recipes he created in the years after he migrated to Mumbai, having left everything behind during the partition of India.

Inaugurated by the legendary actor, the late Dilip Kumar, the first branch had India’s first open show kitchen, and was helmed by Tari, first female ustad, where she dished out some of the most memorable tandoori and roomali rotis to guests.

49 years later, the same original Copper Chimney signature recipes, inspired from across undivided North India, are served using hand-picked spices sourced from select farms, kababs marinated over 8 hours, slow-cooked dals and curries that are cooked fresh for each order.

Now, Copper Chimney’s signature kababs, curries, biryanis, and the fan favourite Kadak Roomali, is available in Mumbai’s premium destination, Juhu. The new Copper is spread across four floors, where the ground and second floors will seat patrons, the first floor holds the kitchen, the third floor, a well-stocked bar, and the fourth floor, an open-air terrace for small group parties and banquets.

The menu here includes Copper Chimney’s signature offerings, such as the flavour-packed Chandni Chowk Chaat inspired from the streets of Old Delhi, Ab-e-Hayat, a subtly flavoured light vegetable and coconut water soup, Kadak Roomali, a paper-thin bread roasted on an inverted tawa and topped with your choice of masalas, the melt-in-your-mouth Paneer Tikka, made fresh everyday by our Ustads, the Grilled Burrah Chops, marinated for over 8 hours with a delicious hint of cinnamon, the Chelo Kabab, served on a fragrant bed of buttered basmati rice, the delectable Rogan Josh, slow-cooked with as many as 21 spices in a special Kashmiri chilly spice-infused oil and more.

While the well-marinated grills are favourites with its clientele, so are its biryanis including the Murg Boti Dum Biryani, sealed with aromas courtesy Copper Chimney’s secret biryani spice blend. Dal lovers will enjoy the wholesome Dal Maharaja, a fine mix of whole black lentils, fresh tomatoes and spices, slow-cooked and topped with a generous dollop of hand-churned butter.

Patrons can also choose from a sheer variety of Indian breads from Roomali Rotis to flaky Chura Parathas cooked in the tandoor, Punjabi Onion & Mirch Roti, garnished with onion, chilli and fresh coriander and more.

Speaking about the Copper Chimney experience, Brand Director, Shikha Nath said, “Mr. J K Kapur’s passion for zero compromise in food quality and ingredients has fueled our passion at Copper Chimney over nearly five decades and continues to inspire us to remain the leader in Indian cuisine. Every detail, from our custom-made tandoors to our secret spice blends, stands the brand apart as a leader in Indian cuisine. With restaurants spread across India, the Middle East and the UK, we are extremely excited to open our newest Copper Chimney in Juhu.”
