With food, its quality and sourcing taking precedence with guests and chefs alike, Puratos, the Brusselsbased bakery ingredients company, has now adopted a unique way to ensure that its ingredients are easy to source back. The company has installed a new thermal transfer coder from Allen Coding Systems to enhance easy traceability of its product. The new code, 53XL80 is a high-resolution printhead technique is used to print numbers, weight, date packed and best-before date on to plastic sachets at speeds of up to 50 packs per minute. Talking about their new adaptation, Phill Davenport, maintenance manager, Puratos said, “Increasing customer demand for better traceability and 24-hour production prompted a need to upgrade our old Allen Coding printing system.” This however doesn’t mean that the company’s previous tracking/printing device was flawed. The spokesperson added that Puratos was always pleased with the company’s previous coder and overall service, and was therefore happy to go with its recommendation of a 53XL80 as it was a straight swap from its existing machine. For the uninitiated, Allen Coding is part of the ITW Marking & Coding Division, which also comprises Allen Spain, Norwood, Diagraph, Trident and Allen Germany.
