Marriott International chalks out expansion plans, to add 40 properties across Africa

In a bid to expand its presence in Africa, Marriott International is planning to add 40 properties and over 8,000 rooms across the continent by the end of 2023. Besides, it has also announced signing of agreements in order to open its first property in Cape Verde and also will be further expanding its presence in Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria. Marriott’s expected growth through 2023 is driven by its premium and select-service brands, led by Marriott Hotels with eight anticipated openings and six slated openings under Protea Hotels by Marriott. The company also expects to introduce its Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott and Element Hotels brands in the region soon. Marriott’s development pipeline for 2023 is expected to drive investment of over USD 2 billion, generating 12,000 new jobs in Africa.
