Aitken Spence launches fifth Indian property

Sri Lankan conglomerate, Aitken Spence, has launched its Coimbatore resort and fifth in India. The hotel under management contract with Aitken Spence, is owned by Pricol Ltd, a Coimbatore-based company.

Named Tamara, the luxury resort has eight air-conditioned luxury tents; each with two double beds and an attached bathroom. The next phase will see the addition of 14 air- conditioned cottages.

In India, Aitken Spence Hotels already manages a portfolio of four luxury resorts the Heritance Madurai; Atithi Puducherry; Poovar Island Resort, Kerala and the Barefoot at Havelock in the Andaman islands.

The October 2008 issue of Hotelier India reported Aitken Spence’s plan for 601 rooms across nine properties. The Tamara is an addition to the list.

Internationally, the company manages 25 hotels in Sri Lanka, Maldives, India and Oman.

“With the launch of Tamara we have further strengthened the presence of Aitken Spence Hotels in the region. With the expected revival of the Indian economy, we are optimistic about the future of the industry and are positively looking towards expansion in India,” said Lakshman Ekanayake, CEO, Aitken Spence Hotel Managements in India.
