Founded in 1844, Zurich’s Baur au Lac hotel has a rich and cultivated history. Following suit, the hotel’s new signature brand of chocolate, “Chocolat 1844” personally created by sixth-generation owner of the Baur au Lac, Andrea Kracht – is equally rich and cultivated.
Kracht, along with the help of Barry-Callebaut in Paris, carefully selected numerous varieties of cocoa from various origins that have been blended to create “Carré noir 70%,” the first product under the brand.
Produced in Switzerland and consisting of 70% cocoa, “Carré noir 70%” is distinguished primarily by its strong cocoa flavour, light fruity accents and a subtle roasted aftertaste. This is the first in a series of products that will soon be launched under the brand “Chocolate 1844.” “Carré noir 70%” is available for sale in the hotel’s gift shop as well as the hotel’s three wine shops, Baur au Lac Wein (all located in Zurich), and pairs delightfully with Baur au Lac Wein’s collection of port wines. It can also be found in various desserts at the hotel’s Pavillon and Rive Gauche restaurants.
