Agra Mayor requests Central government to shut Taj Mahal and other tourist spots to avoid further spread of COVID-19

In order to avoid further spread of the novel Coronavirus in India, Agra Mayor Naveen Jain has requested the Central government to order the closure of tourist spots such as Taj Mahal till the end of March. Along with the iconic Taj Mahal, Agra Mayor has also urged the closure of other monuments across India.

Jain stated that, “Foreign tourists in large numbers visit Agra, this increases the chances of spread of coronavirus in the city. I urge the government of India to close all historical monuments in the country including the Taj Mahal till the time situation doesn’t come under control.”

Further he pointed out that “the locals are concerned about foreigners visiting the city after it was visited by 14 Italian tourists, who later were tested positive for Coronavirus.” Besides, he said that, “if monuments across the country are temporarily shut, more cases of Coronavirus in the country can be prevented. So far 62 cases of Coronavirus have been reported in India.
