The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey 2019 conducted by Airports Council International (ACI) has named Mangaluru International Airport as the best airport by size and region’. Mangaluru International Airport, which is managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has been recognised in the ‘2-5 million passengers per year in Asia-Pacific region category’.
Apart from Mangaluru, the Chandigarh and Thiruvananthapuram airports (managed by AAI) too were awarded in the same category. As per a release, the ACI-ASQ 2019 survey was carried out at around 356 airports across North America, Latin America and Caribbean, Europe, Africa, West Asia and Asia.
The survey measures passengers’ satisfaction across 34 key performance indicators that include eight major categories such as access, check-in, security, airport facilities, food and beverage, retail, airport environment and arrival services. The ASQ survey is the internationally established global benchmarking programme measuring passengers’ satisfaction with airports.
Other Indian airports that were recognised:
• GMR-led Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has bagged the award for World’s Best airport or World’s No.1 airport in the category of over 40 million passengers.
• GVK led Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has been recognised best in the category of ‘Over 40 million passengers’ in the Airport Service Quality Programme (ASQ) 2019 rankings.
• Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru was conferred the award in the 25 – 40 million passengers category
• Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in Hyderabad has been named as the best airport in 15 – 25 million passengers.
• Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport (LKO) in Lucknow and Cochin International Airport (COK) were recognised in the 5–15 million passengers category.
